Summary

The Prologue is set in 1994 in Cape Cod. Christina loved the solitude that she and Aiden enjoyed in her family’s summer cottage. Her mother was dead. Her much older brothers and sisters were strangers to her. Her father had been angry when he found out Christina was pregnant, and even angrier when she would not tell him the name of the child's father.

At first, raising Aiden alone was difficult. When Aiden’s father came around, he reminded her that she had a choice. At the time she had thought she was fortunate to have a baby and a bit of attention from another woman’s husband. At one point, Aiden’s father had said he would leave his wife for her. When Aiden was four, Christina realized that would never happen. He would not leave his wife and her money...
