The Pilot (Peter Williamson)

Peter Williamson is the protagonist of the story. He is a pilot for the RAF. The story begins with Peter trying to cope with the loss of his leg. From his introduction to the story, the reader learns that Peter has an attitude of defiance. This is because he has an inner monologue in which he plans to scare his friends with his missing leg. The fact that he approaches the life-threatening issue of losing a leg with humor shows that he is courageous. However, Peter’s courage is threatened when he begins to realize that he is trapped in a hospital room with people who are lying to him.
