Summary

Beverly arrives to Mr. C’s the next day to a sign on the door saying that they are closed for the day. Beverly investigates further and finds out that some of the other employees are on strike for better benefits and pay. Freddie is not interested in going on strike and calls everyone, including Beverly, selfish for participating. Instead of working, the team plays cards in the back.

Beverly meets Elmer after spending the afternoon at Mr. C’s. During the walk to Iola’s, Elmer tells Beverly that she should go back to her real home. They pick up Iola and set off for the dance.
