Summary

Beverly heads down to the water behind Mr. C’s and walks straight in with her clothes on. She remembers how her father brought her there, or another beach close by, when she was younger. Soon after, he left for New York and never came back. Beverly heads back to Seahorse Court to dry off. Later, her and Iola drive to Discount Dave’s and buy a new toaster and head to bingo.

Beverly waits in the car while Iola plays bingo because she is too young to gamble. Beverly thinks about leaving but laments that Iola would be disappointed in her, so she stays. Iola and Beverly drive home after bingo. Once again, Beverly goes to sleep on the porch with Nod curled up with her.
