Summary

A second person narrator explains to readers that if they wish to shop in Kittur then they must allot themselves a few hours to wander around Umbrella Street. Here they will find furniture stores, pharmacies, restaurants, bookstores and sweet shops. The street holds the most famous restaurant in Kittur called the Ideal Traders Ice Cream and Fresh Fruit parlor. It also holds the office of the Dawn Herald newspaper, Kittur's finest and only newspaper. Every Thursday evening an event takes place in the Ramvittala Temple near Umbrella Street. Here, two traditional minstrels sit on the temple's veranda and recite verses from the Mahabharata, which is the great Indian epic of heroism and endurance.
