Summary

The section opens with Andi in a store buying underwear for Clare. It is written from his perspective. He has to be careful not to raise suspicion that anything strange is behind his purchase.

The narrative shifts to Clare's point of view. She takes a lot of showers now that she is speaking to Andi because the shower is the only place in which she does not feel trapped. Afterwards she sits in a position she likes. When Andi comes home he presents a bottle of Australian Shiraz to her and acts as if she knows the supermarket he got it from. When he sits down next to her, she feels conflicting feelings. She both wants to be away and there. She gets the bottle opener and asks about his day. She makes it sound as if she had the type of day...
