Chapter 8 Summary

Beloved is upstairs dancing for Denver. Then she invites Denver to join in, which Denver does. Denver asks Beloved about where she comes from. Beloved says it was hot. Denver asks her if she saw Jesus or Baby Suggs. Beloved tells her that she did not know anybody's name. Denver continues to ask Beloved questions, but her answers are very strange. Then Beloved tells her that Sethe is the one she needs to have.

Beloved asks Denver about her birth. Denver tells her the story of Amy helping Sethe give birth in a rowboat. As Denver tells the story, it seems to come alive before their eyes. The story returns to the woods where Sethe met Amy. Amy massages Sethe's feet. Sethe complains that her back is hurting. Amy looks at the fresh cuts.....
