Paris, France

Baldwin traveled to Paris several times throughout his life to escape the traumas and oppression of America's systemic racism. In Paris, Baldwin found what he and Glaude refer to as an "elsewhere." This elsewhere was categorized by a reprieve from the constant battle of living in a society which actively brutalized and marginalized black identities.
