Summary

Chapter 35 begins with Nicole addressing a 2011 GLAD award dinner and the family adjusting to public life. Volunteering for a role in a police officer’s training program, Nicole pays a dead body next to a young boy. They begin whispering to each other and at the end of the exercise he gives her a quick kiss. The emotional rollercoaster brings up her greatest fear: someone not loving her for who she is. In Chapter 36, the Maine legislature defeats the proposed bill regarding restricting restroom usage and, within in a year, strengthens their bullying laws. Near Christmas 2011, a front page article about the Maineses appears in The Boston Globe, though Kelly refuses many other offers, preferring to keep the family from the limelight.
