Summary

ROUND SEVEN – Lucius described helping Cassius make posters to promote his next fight. Cassius wanted each to have “flair,” such as rhymes. They put the posters up around town but one woman objected because her nephew, Jimmy Ellis, was Cassius's opponent. Boxing had become popular among young people in Louisville by this time, prompting a locally televised show called Tomorrow's Champions. Cassius, who weighed less than 90 pounds at the time, stayed out of reach while his opponents tired. Lucius noted that everyone began to say Cassius was “the greatest.”

“Cassius Clay vs. James Davis; February 4, 1955” – Cassius “won four fights / in a row” (207) and he dropped his training routine leading up to the fight against James Davis. This was a “big fight” leading up to the Louisville Golden Gloves tournament (not to be confused with the Golden Gloves tournament in Chicago).
