Summary

Seven – On their way to meet Faoud, Sam and Naomi bribe the fisherman who rented them the hut, who has become suspicious because Faoud is alone and looks like an Arab. Up at the hut, Faoud cleans himself up, conversation revealing that he has been shown some of the world by his wealthy father, something that makes Sam more suspicious and Naomi concerned. Sam, narration suggests, had an attachment to being perceived as a savior, but if he was more her equal, then this would be cast into doubt. The trio then goes swimming, with Sam noticing how intimate, and how sexual, the conversation between Naomi and Faoud is getting: “there was just the beating of her own heart, and the acceleration that betrayed a hatred” (83).
