Chapter 6 Summary

The chapter opens with Bone talking about how hunger makes you restless. They are living in poverty, and Mama gets creative, making food out of nearly nothing. One night Mama gets dressed up to leave the house. She tells Bone to call Uncle Earle to take the girls to Alma's until she gets back. Bone lies and says she did this. As Mama leaves, Glen is obviously upset, but he doesn't say anything. After Mama leaves, Bone runs out of the house. She gets Reese, and they hitchhike to Alma's. Mama picks them up past midnight, back in her casual work clothes. Bone notices that Uncle Wade is very angry as they leave, and she wonders what could have made him so mad.
