Summary

Prologue

The prologue takes on the form of a journal entry. Six months before, Emma Thomas had died. But, she has been resuscitated. How, she does not know. The culprit is Carol, Emma’s step aunt. Emma's Uncle George was the one to call the paramedics. Carol can no longer hurt Emma. The court records from the case have been sealed; Emma believes it is thanks to Sara’s father. Despite everything seeming to move on, Emma still hurts deeply. Her ankle will never be the same, and nothing else in the world feels the same. Emma is not sure her friends Sara and Evan will understand it. Emma longs to get out of Wesyln, Connecticut, but she still has six months to go.
