Chapters 27 and 28 Summary

Mike struggles to get into Jo's studio, asking her spirit for help. The forces blocking the door relent and he is in, but the struggle continues as items inside are flung around. Mike throws himself to the floor to avoid them, and feels the outline of a latch under the throw rug. He moves the rug and opens the trap door leading to a storage space beneath the studio. Sara is joined by a young black boy, different from the son that drowned with her at the lake, and the message is clear. Leave the dead to rest in peace. He finds the owls, and under one sees that the base has been removed and then covered over. He pulls the bottom away and finds Jo's Notions. Inside that are folded papers and a photo negative of Jo at the lake...
