Summary

Gay opens Part Two, her section on Gender & Sexuality with a list titled "How to Be Friend With Another Woman," an honest and pithy series of advise for fostering positive female relationships.

The second essay is a primarily a critique of three pieces of entertainment which reflect the female experience. First, Gay writes about the film Bridesmaids, which broke new ground as film that proved "women are funny" (53). Although she recognizes the flaws in the film, Gay appreciates the fact that it offers "a somewhat realistic portrayal of women in a cinematic wasteland where representations of women are generally appalling" (53).
