Chapters 10-12 Summary
Myron returns to Win's family estate, where they are staying at the guesthouse. Myron's not sure what the real motive for the kidnapping is—money, or making Jack lose the U.S. Open. It might even still be a hoax. At the guesthouse, Myron sees Win's Jaguar and an unknown Chevy. He finds Win sitting in the dark drinking brandy, and joins him with a Yoo-Hoo. He hears a toilet flush and realizes Win has brought home a woman, a stranger.
Myron asks Win about Jack's chances of winning the Open, and Win says that Jack has a fire in his eyes that shows his determination to win. According to Win, Jack lost his drive to win twenty-three years ago when he lost the U.S. Open, and now he's just regained it. Win has known Jack Coldren since Jack was fifteen. Win sees the desire to win as selfish and not admirable....
