The Avatar Universe

The entirety of the novel is set within the greater Avatar Universe, as portrayed in the television shows Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra. This world is divided into four nations based on the four elements: The Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, Air Nomads, and Water Tribes. Some people from each of these nations have the ability move their respective elements and use them to fight or get tasks done, which is called "bending". One person, called the Avatar, is born with the ability to bend all four elements, and is tasked with keeping the world in balance and at peace until they die and are reborn into the next Avatar. Each Avatar is born from a particular nation, in a particular order, so for instance an Avatar from the Water Tribes will be followed by an Avatar from the Earth Kingdom.
