Summary

Kyoshi, now sixteen, faces harassment from other children in the village; they feel envious of Kyoshi because she lives well with Jianzhu and Kelsang and does not have to perform manual labor like they do; on the other hand, Kyoshi is envious of them because they all have families and a sense of belonging, something Kyoshi lacks. Kyoshi, along with Jianzhu and Kelsang, lives in a beautiful mansion that Kelsang built, which is decorated with elements from each of the four nations. Many of the villagers find it to be an eyesore. Aoma, one of the bullies, earthbends a jar of kelp away from Kyoshi as the other two, Suzu and Jae, mock her.
