Point of View

Each of these stories is told by a different first-person narrator giving the reader three different unique views of life with Auggie. Julian, a spoiled and entitled boy who is in class with Auggie for the first time, is the narrator for “The Julian Chapter.” Julian blames Auggie for all the troubles that he has during his fifth-grade year, including his loss of popularity. It is not until Julian learns that he is named after the deformed boy who saved his grandmother’s life that he feels remorse for the way he has treated Auggie. Chris, the narrator of “Pluto” has been a friend of Auggie’s since birth. He is able to describe how Auggie is a loyal friend even though it is difficult to have a friendship with him because of his appearance. Charlotte, narrator of “Shingaling,” fills the reader in on background...
