Summary

In “Ordinary,” Julian points out that he knows he has not been nice to August “Auggie” Pullman, but reasons the world is not always nice. He blames the loss of his popularity during his fifth-grade year on Auggie coming to Beecher Prep. Even though he knows life is not easy for Auggie, he argues that is not his problem.

In “The Call,” Julian describes how excited his mother was when Mr. Tushman, the middle school director, called to ask Julian to be a welcome buddy for a new student. The other welcome buddies were Charlotte Cody and Jack Will. Jack said that he wished he had not agreed to help. He could not believe Julian had never seen Auggie and inferred there was something wrong with his face.
