Part 1, Chapter 5 "The Climax of the D'Anconias" Summary

The Mexican Government finds d'Anconia's copper mines empty. Dagny walks to Francisco's hotel at twilight in light snow. She remembers summers with her pal "Frisco d'Anconia," whose annual arrival was Eddie and Dagny's biggest summer event. Francisco's parents were old Taggart family friends. When he was fourteen, Francisco told Dagny that they were the only aristocracy left in the world - the aristocracy of money. He thought the Taggart children were Dagny and Eddie, never James. His ancestor, Sebastian d'Anconia, left Spain centuries ago, abandoning his fortune, his estate and the girl he loved because he disagreed with the Spanish Inquisition. He sailed to Argentina and nailed his silver coat of arms to the door of a shack. Then, he dug for copper with a pick.....
