Summary

In Chapter 42, Maddie tries to imagine allowing the others to poison Ellis but knows it would be outright murder. She knows that it's even worse because he hasn't yet forced Maddie into a mental institution, so she'd be making a “preemptive strike.” Just then, two police officers arrive and ask for Angus. They say someone has filed a report alleging that Angus is poaching from the nearby estate known as Craig Gairbh. Angus says he has taken game from there but that he is the laird of the estate, having inherited it upon the previous laird's death. He provides proof and the officers leave.

Maddie rushes to talk to Ellis and Hank. It's raining and it's obvious they aren't pleased to see her. They argue and Maddie winds up in the boat with Ellis. She tells him she knows he isn't color blind...
