Section 9: Chapter 11 Summary

The apartment is now run by women, and Nadira can feel Abba and Uncle in the empty rooms of the apartment. A few days after Uncle is detained, Nadira and Aisha organize their letters and send them by certified mail. As they celebrate with milkshakes, Aisha asks when Nadira became so positive, and Nadira admits that Aisha always took over and did not leave room for her. She fears her sister will be angry, but Aisha smiles and says there is plenty of room if only she knows how to grab it. Aisha begins allowing Nadira to sit with her at lunch every day after that, and as Aisha's friends talk about their plans for college and for the summer, Nadira is angry at first as she realizes Aisha feels alone and is using her because Nadira is the only one...
