Darl - Chapter 50 Summary
The story picks up when Gillespie's barn is on fire. Jewel runs toward the burning barn, telling Darl to come with him. Anse, Gillespie, Mack, Dewey Dell and Vardaman follow.
Mack, Gillespie, Darl, and Jewel run into the barn to get the animals out of the fire. Mack and Gillespie use their nightshirts to cover the animals' heads in order to keep them from getting spooked by the flames. Meanwhile, Jewel knocks a hole in the wall that allows the cow to escape. After the cow escapes, Jewel and Darl run through the hole that Jewel put in the wall.
