Jasmine “Jazz” Bashara

Jasmine “Jazz” Bashara is the novel’s protagonist and narrator. Jazz's mother left when Jazz was very young. Jazz and her father moved to the moon when Jazz was six years old. Jazz was born in Saudi Arabia, but she considers Artemis her home. Jazz is defined by her intelligence, resourcefulness, and generally snarky wit. She had a falling out with her father when she was a teenager and indirectly caused an accident that destroyed his welding shop. She moved out and began to support herself. She immediately became determined to pay her father back for the value of the damages. During the main events of the novel, she is 26 years old. She makes money as a courier and a smuggler. She is training to become part of the EVA guild so that she can also make money by giving lunar surface tours to tourists.
