Chapter 20 Summary

A week before spring break, a letter from Barbara's parents arrives. Herb and Barbara argue. Margaret goes to her room and plays music to drown out their arguing. Her parents come into her room later. Herb says Margaret should read the letter since she is involved. Margaret reads the letter. Barbara's mother, Mary Hutchins, says they have been thinking about her more as they age, and they want to visit their daughter and granddaughter for a week. Their minister, who baptized Barbara, encourages them to reconcile. Margaret does not like the letter because it does not mention her father.

Herb says they are arriving on April fifth. Margaret says she will not see them because she is going to Florida on the fourth. Her mother looks at her father. Margaret realizes Florida is out......
