March 8 is Margaret's twelfth birthday. She is disappointed she has no underarm odor but puts on her mother's deodorant anyway. Her presents from Sylvia include a plane ticket to Florida. Mr. Benedict has the class sing "Happy Birthday" to her. Nancy mailed her a card thanking her for her friendship. Margaret thinks about Nancy's secret. Mr. Benedict says they will work on group projects on different countries and that he has assigned groups.
Margaret's group consists of her, Philip, Laura, and Norman. Margaret does not like the idea of working with Laura but looks forward to working with Philip. After they get together, Philip sings an insulting version of "Happy Birthday" and pinches.....
