In December, Barbara is busy sending out Christmas cards. Margaret says her mother refers to them as holiday greetings since they do not celebrate Christmas except for gift giving. She sends one to her brother who lives in California who Margaret has never met. While home sick from school, Margaret finds a card addressed to Barbara's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hutchins in Ohio. Margaret does not say anything to her mother because she figures it is a secret. The sixth grade class is putting on a Christmas-Hanukkah pageant.
A week before the program, Alan Gordon says he cannot sing the Christmas songs because it is against his religion, and Lisa Murphy says she will not sing the Hanukkah songs because of her religion. Alan brings a note from home and does not sing.....
