Chapter 3 Summary
Oriko phones Ikem Osodi to arrange for a photographer to cover the goodwill delegation from Abazon. Chris Oriko requests that he approve the copy that will accompany the article; Osodi objects, because it will be his name that will be printed in the Gazette, and he alone should be responsible for what is written there. Oriko reminds the journalist that Chapter Fourteen of the Newspaper Amendment Decree grants the Commissioner of Information specific powers over what is printed in the Gazette.
Oriko hangs up, and calls in his secretary. The phone rings, and Oriko instructs his secretary to notify his callers that he is not in the office. It is Ikem. The secretary informs him that the Commissioner is unavailable; Ikem does not believe her, as he has just been speaking to him on the phone. The secretary coolly informs him that the Commissioner could have been speaking to him...
