Summary

In Chapter 39, Meredith runs off crying, and Étienne chases after her. Anna is shocked and feels rejected. Rashmi and Josh help take her to her dorm. She hears music coming from Meredith’s room and knocks on the door. Meredith tells her that Étienne ran off to Ellie’s as always. Anna goes to the bathroom to vomit but is not able to do so. She comes out, and Amanda insults her and calls Meredith a “dyke.” Anna attacks her physically and gets sent to the headmaster’s office.

In Chapter 40, Anna refuses to repeat the word that Amanda says, so she gets assigned more detention time. Étienne comes to Anna’s room to ask her what happened, and she yells at him for going back to Ellie’s without giving him a chance to speak.
