Summary

Jamie arrives in Chicago a few days after Bill arrived there. She had watched him depart on a bus for Chicago, and she soon felt that their involvement with each other had not yet come to an end. Soon after she and the children arrive in downtown Chicago, a man named Ned approaches them on the sidewalk. Jamie asks if he has seen Bill Houston, and he says that he has. He says that if Jamie comes with him, he can access a telephone and make some calls to locate Bill. Jamie agrees, and she and the children go with the man to an apartment building.
