When Frank wakes on his birthday, Pat Sheehan shares breakfast with him. Agnes comes to the house, walks Frank to the post office and waits outside for him. He is ridiculed for his clothing, but he is told to return on Monday to begin, which is four days away. When Frank tells Agnes about needing to return on Monday, she buys him clothing to wear to work. She also gives him two shillings for a bun and tea, before taking a bus back to her home.
