Chapter 10 Summary

As Chapter 10 opens, Angela becomes very ill and feverish. There is very little food in the house, so Frank decides that he must try to get food from the grocer Kathleen O'Connell. Instead, he steals bread and lemonade. Frank's brothers, Malachy, Alphie and Michael devour the bread and give lemonade to Angela. Frank makes up adventurous stories for his brothers about stealing the food, but the younger boys are initially shocked. The boys stay warm in bed because it is February. Frank goes out again and steals a box of food from someone's porch. When he goes home, he finds the fire is dead.
