Book One: The Sky Is Falling, Chs. 1 - 10. Summary

Chapter 1:

Max is in the midst of a nightmare. She is inside a large cage in the lab where she grew up. She has been returned to the lab, despite having been free earlier. Max is being guarded by a bullying guard who carries a wooden billy club. As the guard paces near her cage, Max taunts him. As a result, the guard cracks his club against her cage, eventually weakening the bars enough for Max to make an escape. Max kicks down the bars and takes off. She sprouts her wings and begins to fly toward the glass windows at the top of the room. Fang is on the other side, ready to have her back as he has many times before. Max hits the glass, but it...
