Ehrengard, pp. 257- 277 Summary

Duke Marbod, the leader of the discontented branch of the royals, suspects that the infant prince is really not Prince Lothar's son and there is some sort of secret at Rosenbad. Two of Marbod's partisans are hanging around near Rosenbad in a tavern, the Blue Boar. They find a vulnerable target in Mathias, who is the husband of the nursemaid Lispeth. Mathias is angry that his wife is not living with him, and is nasty in his few short visits to her. Mathias asks to see the infant who Lispeth is nursing, to prove that she is not actually in an affair with another man.
