Book 3, Chapter 10 Summary

Mason announces to the young people at camp that Clyde is under arrest for the murder of the girl at Big Bittern and demands Clyde's personal belongings. Sondra faints upon hearing the news, at first proclaiming that there's been some mistake, and then wondering if it might be true. Clyde had come late, had not written from Lycurgus, and had been ill upon hearing of the murder. Sondra's next thought is to worry what people will think of her because of her close association with Clyde.

Mason continues to question Clyde on the way to the jail at Bridgeburg.
