Book 2, Chapter 41 Summary
Sondra reminds Clyde to be ready to come to Twelfth Lake to visit her in two or three weeks. In the meantime, Clyde has convinced Roberta to go home to her parents and get ready for an impending marriage and departure with him by getting a trousseau together. He is supposedly using two-three weeks to earn more money, but he's really just buying time.
Book 2, Chapter 41 Analysis
Clyde is not going to marry Roberta; he's just using deception and manipulation to buy time. He's driven by greed and desire to pursue Sondra and that life, no matter what the cost to Roberta.
