Book 2, Chapter 19 Summary

Clyde and Roberta return, seemingly unobserved. However, at the boarding house the next night, two young women comment on seeing Roberta and a young man dancing at Starlight Park. Roberta tries to cover by saying that she had gone there with her sister, but having told Grace that she had been at her sister's all day, she's caught in an obvious and deliberate lie. This situation precipitates an argument with Grace who declares that she doesn't care what Roberta does or who she does it with; she just doesn't want to be lied to. Roberta decides that she's a paying customer in the house and that she doesn't owe explanation to anyone about her behavior.
