Book 2, Chapter 13 Summary

Roberta Alden's background is given, a story similar to Clyde's. She grew up in a very poor home, due mainly to a father who could not think for himself and never quite get anything right. Like Clyde, she wanted something more out of life, and got a job with a small hosiery factory in a town called Trippett Mills. When Roberta's sister gets married, and Roberta realizes that there is no advancement possibility in her job, she comes back to Biltz. When her friend Grace Marr gets work with Finchley Vacuum Company and invites Roberta to share a room and seek employment at Griffiths, she tells her mother she'll be able to better support her financially if she goes. Roberta leaves for Lycurgus and rooms with Grace Marr and her relatives,.....
