Book 2, Chapter 3 Summary

Clyde's departure from Kansas City is recounted. He left on a train car and then was thrown out in St. Louis. From there, he worked his way at odd jobs and menial tasks to Chicago where he was working as a delivery driver for a store. He was making a delivery to the Union League Club, an exclusive all men's club for the ultra-successful, when he runs into Tom Ratterer, who is working there. Happy to see each other, Ratterer tells Clyde that he's NOT from Kansas City, but Cleveland, and Clyde tells Ratterer that to this point, he's called himself Harry Tenet.
