Book 2, Chapter 2 Summary

Mr. Griffiths is an extremely successful man. His success is due to his intelligence, business sense and ability to make good decisions. He is totally opposite of his indecisive, lackluster brother, Asa. Upon returning from a conference in Chicago, Samuel tells his family that he met his nephew in Chicago, the eldest son of his brother. Impressed with Clyde and recognizing that he probably never had a "chance" at success; Samuel decides to offer Clyde a position at the factory to "show what he can do." Gilbert is immediately enraged, threatened by the cousin who is similar in age and looks to himself. Gilbert does not want Clyde to come and usurp his favored position or lessen his standing in the community......
