Summary

Sarat and Marcus forage for food for their pet turtle Cherylene, which they hide in an abandoned tent. Sarat decides it is a girl, and Marcus finds a mouse for company. Sarat follows a group of boys to the camp sewage at Emerald Creek. A boy, Ethan, requests Sarat to retrieve an old wristwatch that he dropped in the fetid creek in exchange for $50. Sarat salvages the watch with a makeshift fishing rod, but is pressured by another boy, Michael, to go into the creek. Feeling a need to prove herself, Sarat accepts the challenge, but accidentally falls into the sewage and becomes completely submerged by sewage waste. Upon returning home, Martina forbids her from entering their tent.
