Summary

Chapter 15 resumes in Martinique in 1992. Marie and Robbie go to a restaurant and Robbie, at Marie’s request, agrees to defend her family during her absence with a gun that has been mailed to them by Mr. Ali.

Chapter 16 begins at the start of Marie’s time in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso. Marie has been given a comfortable house in the suburb of Zone du Bois, with a personal chef and guard. Marie drives on a motorcycle to meet Daniel at a women’s shelter, a location that he uses as a cover. Marie gets hopelessly lost when she does not realize that she is in fact supposed to use a rickety plywood bridge to get across a small river, but eventually finds her way.
