Summary

Yunior describes his relationship with Alma as “an opposites-attract sort of thing…a great-sex sort of thing…a no-thinking sort of thing. It’s wonderful! Wonderful!” (49). However, one day in June, Alma finds out that Yunior is also having a sexual relationship with a freshman student named Laxmi. Alma had suspected that Yunior might be doing such a thing, and her suspicions are confirmed after she sees Yunior’s journal and reads it. After reading Yunior’s journal, she waits on the stoop of Yunior’s apartment building. Eventually, Yunior arrives driving Alma’s Saturn, which Alma presumably let Yunior borrow. Yunior parks in front of the apartment, and he sees his journal in Alma’s hand. Yunior becomes extremely nervous, but he attempts to project a calm countenance. He slowly turns off the car.
