Act 3, Part 1 Summary

Very late that night, Kate sits alone in the dark. Jim appears, having just returned from making a house call to visit a sick patient. He comments on how crazy many of his patients are, and implies that much of their craziness is the result of an obsession with money. Conversation then turns to what happened after the fight between Joe and Chris, revealing that Chris stormed off and hasn't been seen since, that Ann has locked herself in her room, and that Jim has always known the truth. He goes on to say Chris will someday come back to the family, but then adds that he hopes he won't. He explains by recalling a time when he left home and was happy doing what his soul seemed to be calling.....
