Summary

Chapter 31

Unwilling to go back to the barracks where he'd have to face everyone, Tobias wanders into the control room and looks at the screens depicting different parts of the city. He sees his father at the entrance of the Erudite headquarters. Johanna confronts him and refuses to shake his hand. She says that the truth about how he treated his wife and son is out and she can't be his friend any longer. The theme of domestic violence is demonstrated in this chapter especially when Johanna confronts Marcus and calls him what he is.

Marcus says that the peace can be restored, that Evelyn is a tyrant. Johanna reluctantly agrees to allow Marcus to help her rally and grow the Allegiant rebels. The monitors switch to Evelyn and it is apparent that she has been crying. An assistant knocks on her office...
