Chapter 23

Tobias goes to meet Nita again. He mentions that the feel of his hair growing out and touching the top of his collar is a strange feeling, and that he misses the ritual of keeping his hair trimmed. Nita meets up with him and she takes him to a large room that has all of the project's 'subjects' tagged and listed in a pedigree type tree. They are all matrilenal, making Tris a second generation because her mother came from outside the city. Tobias thanks her for the tour, but moves to go back to the barracks when she stops him. There's someplace she wants him to see. As they walk she tells him that the GD are viewed as expendable to the Bureau and that they are conducting unspeakable experiments.
