Chapter 6 Summary

Scarpetta takes Deborah's bones to an expert in Washington, DC. This expert agrees with Scarpetta that the wound on Deborah's finger bone was made pre-mortem and that it was most likely made by a serrated knife. Not only this, but the expert suggests that rather than using a slicing motion, the cut was made with a motion more in line with a punching motion. The expert also says that the cut is on the top of the hand, an unusual location for this type of wound.

After speaking to the expert, Scarpetta goes to Abby's apartment. Abby is extremely nervous to find Scarpetta at her door and insists on going for a walk rather than talking inside the apartment. Once outside the building, Abby reveals that she still believes she is under surveillance and that it is possible her apartment is being bugged...
