Summary

In Chapter 81, we learn that Tom’s presentation was highly publicized. Tom spends most of the chapter admitting that his life here is much better, but that really it is John’s life, and Tom can feel himself slipping away as John takes over. The only thing reminding Tom of who he really is is a feeling of a need for punishment for what he did to his old reality.

Tom finally goes to John’s architecture office in Chapter 82. Most of his employees applaud, but Stewart the firm’s operations manager is not so thrilled. He is annoyed that Tom did not use the speech the firm wrote together (which Tom had no idea about). Tom apologizes and makes amends, which confuses everyone as John has never apologized. Further surprising everyone, Tom announces that he will take an indefinite leave of absence...
