Summary

Chapter 31 describes Penelope’s fury towards Tom due to the fact that he got her pregnant and she could no longer go on the mission. She physically attacked him, but all the while he wondered if she could grow to love him.

In Chapter 32, Tom recounts the fallout from the pregnancy. He and Penelope discussed matters with Victor, who was furious at Tom because he assumed he got Penelope pregnant to sabotage his mission. Likewise, Penelope assumed Tom got her pregnant on purpose so that he could take her place, though Victor explained that he was putting the program on hiatus rather than let Tom participate. Penelope, though, was fired without question, which devastated her.
